Life is cruel and it is inevitable to get disappointed. The worst part is when you get disappointed in yourself. You need to learn how to recover from a disappointment because you might resent yourself in the long run. This will cause your self-esteem and confidence to plummet. Here is how to recover from a disappointment so that you can relearn to love yourself.
Just feel it
Do not attempt to bottle up your feelings by constantly distracting yourself. It is important to lay out everything and to feel everything. When you have disappointed yourself, you might be tempted to pretend it never happened. As a consequence, you will persevere with a fractured ego which might affect your performance in life.
Try to acknowledge what did to let yourself down. Do not brush off the feelings of disappointment. Accept what happened so that you can begin your recovery.
Talk to someone
Confession is cathartic. Talk to a friend about you did. You will notice that confessing will relieve you of that burdensome feeling in your chest. Make sure that you talk to someone who will support you no matter what. Do not be afraid to be vulnerable. You can’t expect to heal overnight. Time is still the best cure. As each day passes, try to forgive yourself. You will notice that in a few weeks or months, you will love yourself again.
