Seven Elements Of Public Speaking

For many of us here public speaking is a daunting task. Standing on the stage and facing a huge group of the public is not as easy as it sounds. You have to deal with the attention that you are getting from so many people and on top of that you should cope with the stress to spell and talk correctly as well as making the speech as simple as possible is not a simple task. Similar to every other activity, public speakers also need a lot of practice. You cannot become the best public speaker in a day or two. In this article, we are going to see seven important elements of public speaking that will help you understand how to talk.

Know The Audience

This is the first and foremost thing that you have to do. You can change the way you speak, tonality and your behavior depending upon the audience you are addressing to. For example, if you are speaking with a set of college students, you should be able to talk to them in a friendly manner and if you are talking with a professional congregate, your way of talking should be more professional and less friendly. This way you can change the tone depending upon the type of audience you are addressing to.

Gain Personal Credibility

The audience attended your show will decide whether to hear you out or not in the first few seconds only so it is important for you to make them clear about your stance at first. You don’t have a lot of time here to make an impression so utilize the first few seconds to express your authority over the subject. Adding a whiff of humor is always a great idea but do not go overboard.

Try Different Methods Of Presentation

No matter how knowledgeable you are about a particular matter, you won’t be able to get the audience attraction if you are not presenting it in the perfect way. The attention of the audience will be available for very less time and you have to gather as much information as you can at this time. The presentation is going to make a ton of difference when it comes to addressing the audience.

Warmup

Warm-up your voice before getting onto the stage. One of the worst things that you can do is correcting your throat while you are on the stage.

Rehearse Perfectly

This is indeed an old technique but the old adage “practice makes a man perfect” is and always will be true. The rehearsing will make you understand what you have to speak on the stage and this is the best way to get rid of any tensions that you have in your mind.
