A TED talk is a short description and presentation about technology, entertainment, or design to get directly to the point. Sorry to disappoint everyone who expected the TED Conference to be founded by a man named “Ted.” TED is a non-profit organization that works with individuals to help share ideas around the world. Over 3,000 TED talk videos are now available, with speakers ranging from politicians to academics to comedians and performers. They also add new videos regularly, so there’s always something new to see.
Furthermore, every TED lecture is available for free viewing on their website or YouTube channel. More people will voice their opinions and discuss the world around them as a result of this. We all could use a little extra motivation to study and improve, and shouldn’t that motivation be provided for free? The gents and ladies of TED certainly agree.
What Is the Average Length of a TED Talk?
If you’re thinking, “Well, that sounds great, but I don’t have time,” I have even better news: TED talks are under an hour long. In reality, a typical TED lecture is under 18 minutes long! That’s less than one episode of most of our favorite shows, and yes, I’m talking to you, Office fans.
Is TEDx Different From TED?
So, now that we’ve defined a TED talk, how does TEDx differ from TED? According to TED, “TEDx events are always planned and coordinated individually, community by community,” under a free license from TED. To put it another way, while TED owns and designs the presentation’s overall structure, each TEDx event is administered by the community that hosts it. This assures accurate, high-quality content and tailored response to the community’s concerns or achievements.
Who Is the Founder of TED Talks?
TED was a small organization before Brené Brown before the 3,000-video library we know today. Back In 1984, architect and designer Richard Saul Wurman and broadcast designer Harry Marks gave the first TED talk to a small audience in California.
In an interview before his death in April 2019, Marks remarked, “I came up with this concept that I wanted to organize a conference, but I didn’t know how to hold a conference.” So Richard came to see us… ‘Let’s take a walk,’ I suggested. ‘I have this idea for a conference that focuses on the intersection of technology, entertainment, and design,’ I explained. ‘Would you be willing to assist me or show me how to organize a conference?’
A TED talk is a video of an address given at the leading TED conference (technology, entertainment, and design) or one of its many satellite events worldwide.
The duration of TED talks is limited to 18 minutes, but they can cover any topic. From the TEDx website, here is an explanation of the selection criteria: “TED searches out engaging, enthralling speakers whose talks offer fresh perspectives backed by research and relevant to a worldwide audience.”
